EQing the perfect club kick

- [Instructor] If your mix is mainly intended to be played in a club, you have to be aware of what can happen when a playback system using a lot of subwoofers gets a hold of it. Here's a trick that will make that kick sound even better in the club. So first of all, let's listen to our mix just the way it is. (funky dance music) Now this kick sound here might sound dynamite over your playback monitors, and it might sound dynamite in your car. But the problem is in a club, it just might be too overpowering and overpower the rest of your mix. The reason why is subwoofers in clubs are usually way, way, way too loud, and what ends up happening is a normal kick will just kind of overpower everything. So what we're going to do is a little trick that will actually fool the subwoofers and get you a great sounding kick in the club. Here's what it sounds like normally. (rhythmic drumming) We're going to insert an EQ. And the first thing we'll do is roll off some of the really nice big bottom…
