- [Instructor] Okay, let's listen to a shelving EQ. I'll play an example using the Neve 1073 on a lead vocal and play it through the pre-chorus and chorus bypassing the EQ twice in each section. ♫ Hearing such pain unsettles ♫ My mind ♫ It races, paces quicker ♫ Yet slows down time your words they pierce me from ♫ The inside I receive your message ♫ The visage ♫ Erased - With this example, I added 220 hertz on the low shelving band to add some thickness, and on the high shelving band I boosted 12 kilohertz, which adds a nice airy quality to his voice. On this particular track, I would most likely utilize the mid-band of this 1073 to cut out some of the lower mid-range to give it a bit more clarity. This is a very popular type of EQ for vocals, and would be a great starting point to try on your own projects.
