Drum bleed on toms with different mics

- [Instructor] For this listening session, I mic'd up the rack and floor toms with three different types of mics. There's a large diaphragm condenser on the left, a small diaphragm condenser in the middle, and a dynamic mic on the right. Here it is on the rack tom, and then here you can see it on the floor tom as well, coming around the side there. So we're going to go and listen to the different examples here, and I'm going to switch between the large diaphragm condenser, the small diaphragm condenser, and the dynamic mic pairs, and what I want you to listen for is the bleed that we're getting from the other elements of the drum kit. Listen for the kick drum level and the tone, and we're going to zoom in and think about some of this a bit. Listen for the ride or hi-hat sound, depending on the part of the song, and the sound and the level of these ride and hi-hat parts. And then when there's a crash, too, real important to consider, especially on the rack tom sometimes, how loud is…
