Compressor comparison

- [Instructor] Now it's time to listen to some compressors. I'd like to play you a few examples to demonstrate the unique differences between Optical, FET, VCA, and Variable Mu type compressors. I've taken the liberty of choosing my favorite Slate Digital microphone and pre-amp combination for each track. For instance on the kick drum, I have a microphone that's reminiscent of an AKG D12 type of microphone. And on the snare, I have a vintage SM57 type microphone. Both with a solid state microphone pre-amp module. Okay, so we're going to listen to the drums on their own, and I'm going to do the same section as all the previous videos. I'm going to start with the pre-chorus and then the chorus. You'll listen to the Optical compressor, which I've chosen, an LA-2A type, 1176 FET type, SSL VCA type, and a Fairchild 670 Variable Mu type.
