- In many cases, you might be working on a song…that's a mixture of both live and programmed material.…Let's take a look at this, and see how we can merge…these two different elements into one production.…The first question I like to ask is who is the boss,…and who is the boss means,…is the programmed material the boss,…or is the live material the boss?…How do we determine who's the boss?…At the end of the day, this is a creative decision.…What I like to do is listen,…and say, what's feeling better here?…Is the programmed stuff feeling really good,…and I want the live stuff to gel with that,…or is the live stuff feeling really good,…and I want the programmed stuff to gel with that?…One thing to keep in mind,…when things are on a grid, it's easier to edit,…and that would set you up to really…make things jive with the programmed material,…but you have to do what feels good at the end of the day.…
Let's think about just drums for a second…in a situation where we want to sync the program drums…to a live performance of drums.…
