Autopanning guitars and keyboards

- [Voiceover] Sometimes, in order to create movement in a section of a song, or to gain the listener's attention, we can use auto-panning functions. The first technique I'll show you is automated panning. I have a track here of recorded; it's a mono guitar with a spring reverb on it. Let's listen to it in the mix real quick. (light melody) It's a mono guitar, it's centered, and it's got a lot of spring reverb on it, like I said. What I want it to do is move across the stereo field so, earlier, I wrote a little bit of automation here. And there it goes. Where we start on the left side and the sound'll pan across to the right. You can hear it here in the mix. (light melody) And we'll solo it, too. (reverberating guitar note) So, always be careful to make sure your starting point is before the sound starts if you really want to do a long sweep like this. We have the automation preceding the sound, and then make sure that you get across where the bulk of the sound is happening, and then…
