Analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion overview: Fundamentals of Pro Audio Equipment

An analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog convertor is an electronic device that “converts” signals to and from the analog and digital world. The idea is for the conversion to be done as accurately as possible as to preserve the original intended characteristics of the recorded source. Convertors are versatile; they typically offer a wide range of sample and bit-rate options, usually chosen on a project-by-project basis but also sometimes dependent on available disk space or CPU power.
