Brian addresses another actual mix note on the subject of making sure the snare drum has "body" within a mix. Brian takes notice of how well written and detailed the mix note is, and how helpful it was to him. Avid Pro Expander and Waves SSL E-Channel are featured.
- [Voiceover] I'm going to start this video…by reading you another actual mix note I received,…and it's a long one.…"The overall snare sound could use some more body.…It's very top-end heavy, but missing the fatness.…There might be too much real snare,…or that alt-snare in the mix.…Maybe it's the cymbal bleed in the mics that I hear…in the snare that's making it sound…too top-end and aggressive.…Maybe use some more of the samples."…So the samples he's referring to is…this producer added quite a number of samples to the mix.…
And in fact, when I addressed that note,…that's exactly what I did.…But since we're on the subject of the EQ glossary,…I want to show you a different way…I could have approached that.…So to do that, I'm going to turn all these samples off,…and deal with just the snare, the actual snare,…top and bottom mic.…I'll play you a little of the song first.…♫ I'm color-coding my moods…- You can see that's pretty flat,…only thing going on EQ-wise…is this noise gate on the SSL channel.…
But I also want to show you that the relationship…
