Plow folding
Plow folding involves the use of a stationary metal plow with edges that are inclined at an angle, and the angle is in the direction of the movement of the paper. As the sheet travels over the metal plow, the plow forces it to fold parallel to the flow direction. Plow folders typically also have a fold former, made of shape sheet metal, or folding rods, that guide the sheet as it goes over the plow, which allows for a clean edge on the fold. Plow folding is commonly used to fold packaging and pocket folders. It's the preferred method for these types of materials, because the heavyweight stocks used in packaging cannot be buckle-folded. And, because knife-folding is primarily for folding large sheets of paper. Plow folding is also often used for inline finishing on web presses, where they're printing and finishing the piece in one pass.
