Flaps
- If you've ever seen a little short panel on a brochure, it's called a flap. Technically, a flap is a short panel that measures less than half the dimension in width in comparison to the other panels of the folded piece. Here are examples of flaps folded to the interior and exterior of a brochure. Flaps can serve as neat little opening mechanisms when they're folded to the outside of the brochure and, when folded to the interior, they can work as a creative element, such as a call-out or an image. For utility, they're great for tear-off coupons, business reply cards, or BRCs, and other functional elements. Depending upon your design concept and objective, you can also do fun things with the shape of the flap by adding a die cut. There are not a lot of rules regarding short flaps and their use which opens the door to lots of creative solutions.
