Extended panels

- Some folding techniques tend to whisper rather than to scream for attention. Whispers are good when you're looking to project an image of understated elegance, or to do something simple to compliment the content. We learned in the first movie of this chapter that you can shorten panels with a guillotine trim to make them more interesting. Now we're going to talk about doing the opposite. We're going to talk about lengthening the last panel to make it extend past the cover. Both techniques create a visual contrast on the cover panel, however, a short trim directly relates with the content on the panel below it. Whereas the extended trailing panel is close to the cover visually when the piece is folded, but physically, it is an extension of an underlying panel off in the back panel. This technique works well for accordion folds and double parallel folds in particular due to the fact that they have open, trailing edges, as opposed to roll-folds, tri-folds, and gate-folds, whose panels…
