Choosing the right paper

- A fabulous fold, can be a total flop if it's printed on the wrong paper. I'm sure you've seen it before, the brochure that feels wimpy or the piece that looks too bulky when it's folded or worse, weighs too much at the post office. It's a subjective detail that is commonly overlooked. Often people make their judgement call by feeling the weight of a page in a paper swatch book. But the best thing you can do, is to ask your printer or local paper representative for paper dummies in a few different weights, or for a few flat sheets of each paper you're considering, so you that you can whip up your own folded samples. You may be surprised at what you get once the paper is folded down into the desired size and format. That sheet, you were sure of, may no longer even be in the running. First, think about finish. The greatest thing about paper is its tactile quality. Weight plays a role in that but so does finish. Do you want the hard finish of a high gloss sheet? Or the toothy finish of…
