A look at sound design

- We've talked just a bit about audio throughout this course but I want to take an opportunity to say more here and talk just a bit about sound design. Now when we talk about sound there are a lot of things we mean. Obviously, we probably think immediately of the sound of human speech but there's so much more than that. There is ambient sound which is the sound of the environment in which a scene takes place. There are sound effects which help illustrate various environmental or emotional additions to the scene. There is music. Which helps to add emotion and meaning to the film. Some of these sounds can be recorded on location. Like the dialogue, ambient sound and some sync sound effects. By the way, when I say sync sound, I'm talking about sound with the direct correspondence with the image. That is, it appears to be generated from what's going on in the picture. Like when someone is talking or singing. (singing) And actually, sync sound doesn't even technically have to contain audio…
