- Hi, my name's Maxim Jago. I'm a filmmaker, trainer, script writer, and author. I'm also a certified Adobe Trainer, certified Avid Trainer, and certified Grass Valley Trainer. In this course, I will show you how similar Premiere Pro and Avid really are. If you are a confident Avid editor, this course will help you to translate your skills quickly and easily to the world of Premiere Pro. If you're just starting out and have just started to learn how Avid works, that's fine, too.
I won't presume you know technical jargon. I will cover each step fully. It's going to be detailed, fast-learning, and fun. Avid is a very highly regarded editing system, which, for many, is the standard by which other systems are measured. It's an excellent cutting system with respect from Industry and Indy filmmaker alike. Things are changing, though. Premiere Pro is quickly being taken up by broadcasters and facilities. And it has a loyal user base amongst the Indies. Part of the attraction of Premiere Pro is its excellent native support for multiple file formats and unique interoperability with other Adobe applications like Photoshop and After Effects.
CS5 brings very special new features to Premiere Pro. The new Mercury Playback engine and 64-bit support make Premiere Pro a playback powerhouse with great support, not just for regular formats like DV, HDV, or HDCAM, but also for the tough ones like H.264, AVCHD, and even RED. The RED support alone is enough reason to consider switching to Premiere Pro. Not only is Premiere Pro an advanced, professional editing system already used by broadcasters with stringent technical requirements, it's also fast and forgiving.
It's one of those systems that just works and it's intuitive, too. You'll find it easy to work things out, once you have a basic familiarity with the Premiere Pro interface. Premiere Pro CS5 can import Avid projects, work on them, and then export them back for Avid to continue editing. We'll be covering this important round-trip workflow, too. I'm excited to be sharing this distilled knowledge with you and think you'll find the learning super fast and effective. Along with Premiere Pro, we'll also touch on the unique interaction between it and other applications like After Effects and Photoshop.
