Using your meters for a better mix

- Meters are great for measuring your audio and to see where you are at, but how do you use them as a tool to help you create a better mix? That's where it gets very, very interesting and you can start really following along your meters as you're working so that you don't work quite so hard and you start understanding what you're hearing and what you're seeing at the same time. We're going to play again, and see what the meters are actually doing. And one thing that we didn't talk about when we were setting up the meter was the range. So I'm going to go ahead and bring that up big again so you can see the bigger range. Down here are the DBs and you can see it only starts with minus 60. If you want a larger dynamic range you can choose 120 and you'll go all the way, go down to 120. If you're mixing a very dynamic range or a very, very, very quiet piece to a very, very loud piece, this is a good setting to have.
