Using a viewfinder
Brian Liepe: Viewfinders, like monitors, help the camera operator in shooting conditions that require a close eye on the footage that's being captured. For example, in really sunny locations, trying to see the LCD screen is extremely difficult. Even with shade, light is coming in from every direction, from the sun, bouncing up from the ground, just making it really hard to see what's going on. So use a viewfinder which keeps the light from obscuring your view of the LCD and seals in light at the point of contact with your eye. I used a Zacuto Z-Finder for all these shots in Africa where the sunshine was way too bright to see my LCD if I didn't have it. The viewfinder typically magnifies the image anywhere from 1.5 times the actual size to three times the size, so that the image fills your field of vision when you're operating the camera.
