Using trucking shots

Trucking shots move with the action. Sometimes called dolly shots or tracking shots, trucking shots are usually shot from a moving platform--a dolly--running on tracks or by a cameraperson, walking or running along with the action. Those shooters sometimes use specialized gear like steadicams to minimize the bouncing effect as they move along. You can also use your arm as a boom and lift your camera up and down as you get a trucking shot. Trucking shots can be done from in front of, behind, or to the side of the object in motion, or replace the object in motion. In that case, they're a point-of-view shot, and I show you a few point-of-view shots in a separate movie. We did a couple of trucking shots for this course. Here's how they turned out. I did two types of trucking shots at the ice-skating arena. The first one was with this figure skater who was working with her coach. I followed along as best I could.
