Using garbage mattes
- Garbage mattes are as their names indicates a way to get rid of garbage. Or the parts that we don't want to show. If we are ready to key out the green color of our clip, but the green screen was not large enough to cover the entire background, then we could use a garbage matte to cover the parts of the clip that are not green. Let's try it. Open sequence 1.5 and place your playheads so that you can see the first clip. You can see here that the green is not large enough to cover the entire background of the clip. Before we start the keying process, we need to get rid of the garbage. Let's add an Eight-Point Garbage Matte. Go to the Effects Panel and in the Search field just type Garbage. You will see here the Eight-Point Garbage Matte. I'm going to drag it to the clip. To easily see the control points in this effect click on this icon here in the Effect Controls Panel and now you will be able to see these control points on the clip.
