- [Instructor] If you have access to the exercise files used throughout this course you can find them on the exercise files tab on our main course page. You'll download a compressed file to a zip file and when you unzip the file you'll see a folder labeled exercise files. Now first things first, it's important that you know what version of Premiere Pro you've got so that you're working with the right course and the right exercise files. This training is for the Adobe Premiere Pro 2020 version of the software, also called version 14. These exercise files will work if you're running this version or later. If you're running a prior version of Premiere Pro you should either access the correctly versioned Premiere Pro training in our library, or upgrade your software so you can take this training. And if it's possible I definitely recommend upgrading so you can be up to speed with the latest that the software can offer. I go over all of this in more detail in the next video on Premiere Pro versioning issues so please check that out for more info. Okay, so let's talk about the exercise files. If you open up this folder you'll see two additional folders inside, you've got Media and Project. I want to describe these briefly. In the Project folder is the actual project file that you'll be working with throughout this course. If you launch this it launches the software and then inside the software there are step-by-step materials for everything we do throughout this training, even though you can't see any of it at the finder level. You'll only see it once you launch the software, which we'll do in a moment. The Media folder contains all of your assets. As you can see there are folders, and folders inside of folders. Everything is very well organized. And you can take a look in here but don't move anything. Everything is organized just so and this Project file points to this media. So if you start moving things the link will be broken. All right, so I promised that we would launch the software so all you need to do to do that is to just double click on this Evans of Cappoquin Premiere Pro project file. While this is launching I just want to mention that this is a dual platform training. I'll be working on a Mac, but because many of you will be on a PC I'll be calling out both Mac and PC shortcut commands, and will have graphic overlays on screen to direct you to the right command throughout the training. All right, so the first time you launch the software you're going to need to link your media. Basically you're just telling the Project file where to find all of this media. All right, so the first thing you need to do is make sure that this box is checked, Relink others automatically. This means that you only need to find one file and then it will find all the rest. And then you choose Locate. And then you come up here and see what file it's looking for. Okay, so right now it's looking for a file called Behind Counter Coffeehouse. And specifically it's looking for a file in exercise file, in the Media folder, in B Roll, in Bakery Coffee Shop, and then on into other folders. So if you want you can burrow in and find that. There's Media, there's B Roll, there's Bakery Coffee Shop, Inside, and here is that file behind Counter Coffeehouse. You can see that now our directories match up. Or if you don't want to go that far all you have to do is click on the Media folder and then click Search, and then Premiere Pro will look inside the Media folder and find that file for you. All right, so once you have that selected and say OK, because you've checked this box, Relink others automatically, it's putting check marks next to every single file that you've got and your media will be relinked. And this is the only time that you have to do this. And unless you move your media around, or have a catastrophic crash, or another situation like that, you won't have to relink your media again. All right, so now we're in the Evans of Cappaquin project file and I promised you that you'd have all of your step-by-step instructions in here and that's down here. Most of the time you'll be working in exercise files so I'll just twirl this down. Chapters one through three don't use these exercise files. Chapter one is just a general informational chapter on what's new content. Chapter two takes you on a tour of the Premiere Pro environment. And chapter three shows you how to import and organize your media from scratch. But from chapter four on we'll be using these exercise files. And so basically you just follow along video for video. So for example, if you're in chapter four and you're in the fourth movie of chapter four, so you would just twirl that down. This contains absolutely everything you would need to complete that tutorial. And in many cases there is both a pre and post version of a sequence. So for example, this is what the sequence looks like before you do any work, and this is what the sequence looks like after you've done the work in the tutorial. Now if you don't have access to the exercise files than you can feel free to follow along with your own assets. Let's get started.
