Understanding visual impairment
- For many, visual impairment might get in their way of being able to consume video content or websites. Now in this case, you might be thinking, well, they can still hear everything that's going on. But it doesn't necessarily mean that they're getting all of the same information as a person who's relying upon two senses. With visual impairments, remember that this could be either the decreased ability to see, to the extent where you can't wear glasses or contacts to overcome it. For example, I wear contact lenses. And without my contacts, it's difficult to read and see some things but with them I'm fine. However, my grandmother had visual impairment to the point where she was not able to read or see things using glasses. Her vision had deteriorated with age and due to diabetes that she was legally blind. She needed other types of content to be able to access and enjoy, switching to things like books on tape or radio or the ability to listen to audio-described programming. Blindness…
