Understanding the basics of dialogue construction

- Now that we've become acquainted with the script and we've peeked in on the production meeting between the director and actors, let's discuss our editing plan once we get the footage. Now we've already discussed a lot of the different decisions that editors must make when putting a scene together. We know that an editor chooses which shot to use, determining the angle and composition and understanding that each shot provides different emotional energies and intentions. We know that together with the director an editor determines which take to use knowing that each take contains slightly or dramatically different deliveries of the lines. We know that an editor chooses who to show on screen, whether it's the person talking, the person listening, or something else entirely. Juxtaposing what we hear and see is so important in dialog editing.
