Transitioning from exteriors to interiors

It's tempting to shoot scenes as stand-alone events, but in a story, scenes are usually connected. You need to take your viewers from one scene or location to another, and the most common such transition is to grow from an exterior shot to an interior shot, of course the reverse can be the case. But for the purposes of this course, I focused my efforts on going from outdoors to indoors. If you want, you can just reverse that process. For example, I wanted to go from the exterior of this tea shop to an interior, so I have the customer walking in the door and the next shot was not of her, but the next shot was a tight shot of someone stirring up this tea, and that cutaway allowed me to make that transition. (video playing) To set this up, it took three shots of a wide shot of the grocery store, and a tight shot of the shopper going in the door, and then a shot from the interior as he came in the door and continued on past down to the produce aisle.
