- We don't always control the purse strings associated with our projects, and that's where self-captioning comes into play. Premiere's tools for self-captioning are really great. They're a little bit better for editorial, but when it comes to captioning, you get into this need for repeating the audio, and having to type while you're listening. And I want you to know about a couple conventions, and then there's a tool I want to point out here. Good formatting conventions include the use of brackets for sounds and emotions, the use of parentheses for character names, and you'll find that there is a little music note icon, this is even before emojis, but as I said, I struggle a little bit with Premiere Pro for actually generating the captions. It's kind of slow and a little clunky, and for that reason, I'm a big fan of using another third-party tool. The third-party tool I wanna mention to you is a tool called MovieCaptioner.
