Planning your mix

- Before you start playing with sliders and creating key frames, you should rewatch and relisten to your program. Figure out when you want the music to swell, how you want it to dip under the interview, and how you want to handle the ambient sound. Once this is done, make sure that all of your audio levels are neutral, and by neutral, I mean being set to peak at, say, - 6db or 12db or even -20db depending on your client's needs. Also, I want you to notice that when you have multiple layers of audio, you'll notice that the meters will peak above the preset limit of, say, -12db, and that's because audio is additive. With all this in your head, you're ready to start mixing.
