- MPEG2 is a venerable video format that was used for years and years for different purposes, and is still the format used on traditional DVDs, and can be used on Blu rays as well. Let's take a look at how you make these MPEG2 files for DVD and Blu ray. I'm here in Media Encoder and I have a test file in the queue, and you'll see that the choices I have that are relevant here are MPEG2 Blu ray and MPEG2 DVD. So let's take a look at DVD, the lower resolution first. As you can see, the presets available to me here basically just match different formats, different aspect ratios, and different frame rates. So for the most part, these match NTSC or PAL specifications, and then allow us to do widescreen or progressive, things of this nature. Everything here matches a standard television format pretty closely, because traditionally Blu rays are played on TVs. The choices for MPEG2 in Blu ray are gonna be similar, but high definition.
