Between all non-linear editors (NLEs) there are things that are similar and things that are different. If you are migrating to Adobe Premiere Pro CC, what are some similarities and differences about transitions that you need to be aware of? Author Jeff Greenberg gives some key comparisons about transitions between Premiere Pro and other NLEs.
- I don't need to sell to you how important transitions are. I need to just alert you to a couple things coming from other tools. First, Shift + D, for me, is the preferred key, and it's based on the selection. If I wanted to be on all these video clips, with that Option key down, I'm going to select all of them, and hit Shift + D and it puts them on the heads and tails of everything selected. I would consider mapping the Timeline Preferences if you change the duration often. And I happen to. It's not mapped on my system, but it's found here under the timeline settings.
In the effects themselves, under Video Transitions, you can change what the default transition is, but it does not include its duration, and you can't set a preset as a default. All the adjustments are going to be made in the effect controls window. Again, that happens to be Shift + 5. Don't double click. For whatever reason, Adobe's edge wipes don't have a softness parameter. There's a workaround we'll see in the next section.
