Fixing common contrast problems
So earlier in this chapter we talked about video scopes and what an essential tool they are to evaluating your image. Well, now it's come time to actually make some corrections and talk about some common ways that you might need to fix your footage, and we're going to start out by talking about making some common contrast corrections. Now to be clear when I talk about contrast, I'm talking about adjusting the brightness values in a shot. Sometimes you'll want to make a shot brighter. Sometimes you'll want to make it darker. Other times you'll want to just brighten the mid-tones but darken the shadows. There's times that you're going to want to be able to fix a shot, and then of course there are times that you're going to want to sort of aesthetically change a shot. How you do that is up to you. But in this movie, I want to take a look at some common contrast fixes that I think you can employ in your own projects. So here in this timeline, 0205 contrast problems, I just have two shots…
