- [Instructor] You can use this effect to create special effects on your sound. You could imitate a blown car speaker, or lots of recording noise. How this effect works, is by effecting both positive and negative values. Now, what are positive and negative values? Now, a sound wave distorts the air, which is its propagation medium. When it distorts it, it's making positive pressure, but when the air retracts, it doesn't go back to where it was. Since it's elastic, it goes back ever further. So, think of a guitar string that your pluck. When it's released, it goes back to where it was, and even further back. The original displacement is positive. And, the extra displacement, on the side, past where it was originally, is the negative. If we have a straight line represent the air, a wave form will go above and below this line.
