Color grading a commercial is an easy way to add a mood and feel to the piece. You will need to take into consideration things like the tone of the story and the different story beats you have. How does color grading impact the mood? In this movie, author Richard Harrington demonstrates how to use color grading as a way to enhance the story you are trying to tell in your commercial by creating a mood.
- I'd like to give you a quick overview…of some of the decisions that were made…as we color graded the spot.…Now, I'll show you a finished piece…and talk through some of the things that were done,…and then, you can go ahead and take your own hand at it…if you'd like to practice.…Let's take a look at the Graded piece here for a second,…and I'll press F for Match Frame.…You'll notice that this shot was brightened up a little bit.…
The next shot needed to match a bit…because the lighting was slightly different.…In this case, we had to deal with a shot…that was a bit dark,…and we needed to find the right balance.…You see that the skin tones were brought out a little bit…while still leaving the shot as is.…All right, let's take a stab at a couple of these shots.…I'll work through the first few,…and then, you can play with the rest if you'd like.…
I prefer to switch to the Color Workspace…to make this a bit easier.…And then, let's Reset that Workspace to its default.…Now, we'll select that first shot.…And looking at this shot,…
