Select a poster frame

- [Instructor] There may be times when the first frame of your video isn't the best representation of its content. With your video selected, under the format tab, you'll find the poster frame menu. And it lets you choose what the still image of the video will be before you play it. It's basically what your audience will see until you click the play button. By default, it's the first frame of the movie, but you can either select an image file to act as the poster frame, or you can play the video until you find a frame you like. For example, I can jump around this video until I find a frame I like. - [Woman In PowerPoint] Hansel and Petal has been, for years, providing-- - [Instructor] So wherever I pause it, I can then just come up to the poster frame, and choose current frame. And when I click outside the video, you can see that it's become the still frame representing the video. And when I click play, it still starts at the beginning. - [Woman In PowerPoint] Hansel and Petal has-- - [Instructor] Now alternately, you can use an entirely different image, if you prefer. So again, I have the video selected, this time I'll come up to poster frame and choose image from file. And I have a file on my computer so I'll choose from a file. And I'll browse out to my exercise files on my desktop into chapter three, and I have this image called card. So I'll select that and choose insert. And there it is. So this is what my audience will see until I click play. - [Woman In PowerPoint] Hansel and Petal has been, for-- - [Instructor] At which point, we see the video. If I click off, we can see the poster frame that I chose. Now something else I might want to do here is to select the video and go to the playback tab, and here I'm going to set a fade-in of one second. So instead of that abrupt jump right into my video, we should now have a smoother transition between the poster frame and the video. - [Woman In PowerPoint] Hansel and Petal has been, for years, providing me the most-- - [Instructor] All right, so that's how to select a poster frame for your videos in PowerPoint.
