- [Instructor] Pie charts have come under a great deal of criticism recently, and one of the criticisms is that when you have more than just a few data points, it becomes very difficult to compare one slice or one value to another, in part because we're not used to thinking about angles as a way to compare items. This isn't a reason to remove pie charts from your repertoire, that when we take a look at a pie chart like this, which is illustrating sales of mini solar panels by state, you begin to see what some of the problems are. There are a number of different slices here, 15 to be exact, and it is difficult to compare the smaller or midsize slices with each other. Your eye's automatically drawn simply to the larger ones. And if you had to say, for example, how large this slice was, you'd need to point to it. But in a presentation, you won't be able to do that.
