PointSense overview

- [Instructor] PointSense is a plugin that sits right on top of AutoCAD and gives us the ability to model on a point cloud. These additional tools will also allow us to make modifications to the point cloud, such as clipping, sectioning, performing analysis, fitting, and creating 3D models. First, let's open AutoCAD from our desktop. Let's navigate to our exercise files. We're going to open, desktop, exercise files, chapter 01-01. We're in the typical AutoCAD environment. I want you to look at the tabs across the top of the ribbon menu. Depending on the license that you have for PointSense, if you have just PointSense Pro, you will see the PointSense Pro tab available for you above your ribbon menu. If you have the PointSense Suite, you'll notice that you have additional PointSense products available to you, but for this tutorial we're only going to be working with the features found in PointSense Pro. Let's highlight the PointSense Pro tab, and just take a look at what we're going to be studying during this course. We're going to be looking at point clouds. We're going to look at the point cloud parameters. We're going to learn how to insert a recap file, which is the point cloud file. We're going to look at how to create sections and slices through the point cloud. This is the sections panel right here. We'll look at Scan Navigation. This is a feature of PointSense. This allows us to view the planar image of the points inside AutoCAD. We'll look at the digitizing tools. We'll look at some of the dimensioning tools, and we'll look at modeling. This is where we'll find some of our fitting tools. In this section here we can fit some polygons, some line work. We can fit planes, cylinders, and cones to the point cloud. We'll look at some of the basic settings as well. Now that you've seen where all the basic commands are located, it's time to start working with some point clouds.
