Selection tools

- Our next category of tools are selection tools, and there are several in the tools palette. Later when we explore selections in depth, you'll learn how to use these tools, along with a couple of menu commands, to get better results. But, let me give you the high level overview. First up, there are several basic tools for making shapes. We've got our Rectangular and our Marquee selection. These allow you to easily drag and define an area that you want to process. These can be made as individual new selections, or you can tell these selections to combine as you drag to make a more complex selection using the Options bar, which gives you the ability to add or subtract, as you see here, creating new combined shapes, overlapped areas, or subtract one from the other. Another useful option is the Magic Wand here, or W. This allows you to make a basic selection. Let's choose the background layer here and click on the wall.
