Setting up an artist, band or business account is almost as easy as establishing a personal account, except that you have the ability to supply a lot more information about you, your band or your music related business. Here's how it's done. So the first thing you do is you go to business.pinterest.com, and you can see everything looks different from the normal personal account. If you do have a personal account, you can actually convert it to a business account. You just click, and it will ask you to login and then you can do it from there, it’s very simple.
But let’s just say we want to join as a business and again, if you're a band or an artist, you're a business, in the eyes of Pinterest anyway. So now you can see that there's a whole lot more information that you can put in. So for instance the business type. Now, a lot of these will work, because if you're a band or a musician, you're a professional so that could work. You may be a public figure because some people know you. So either of those will work.
If you're a band and all you want to do is play weddings and things like that, local establishments, then you might want to do local business. Or you could do other. You're probably better off to take one or the other of the first two, professional or a public figure. So for now we'll just say professional. And then it's going to ask you to fill in all the things that are pertinent, like who's going to manage the account, what their contact name is here, email address, the size of the account, and of course a password.
And now it comes down to the profile, and profile's really important. For instance, if you're a band, we'll just say The Unsigned, and it's a band name I like to use. And of course for user name you'd want to put that. You wouldn't want to put anything other than your professional name. Like for instance, for me what I use is, Bobby Owsinski. It says user name is already in use so, one of the things that protects everyone from having the same name.
So we will just go back to The Unsigned. Next thing is to upload an image. And this is fairly easy. And you'll find different places that you can get your image from. You can go to photos or wherever. Make sure that you upload a proper image. And that it's not a baby picture, it's not something that's funny. Unless of course you're a comedian. And it's not an avatar. You're better off to place either your logo, or band picture, or personal picture, there.
And then finally, we come down to the description section. So make sure that you enter that in. And it says you only have 200 characters. But that's enough that you can actually say exactly what you are. For instance, something like that. And you can see you can actually put a lot in 200 characters. The next thing is to add your website address, and this is important. You really want to get that in, because that's how people contact you if they need.
And obviously all of your best information is going to be there. And then finally you have to agree to the terms of service, of Pinterest, and then once you do that, it will say create an account after you fill everything in. Pinterest is pretty good about making you fill everything in before you actually start your account. Two things will happen after you do this. The first is, don't forget you put an email address in here, so you'll have to verify that. And, what'll happen, they'll send you an email, you'll click verify and that'll be good.
And then the next thing you know, you'll have to verify your website address. And, the same thing will happen that, they'll verify it in order to make sure that it's a real address. They don't want robots creating accounts here, so that's protection for you. Pinterest is really serious about business pages. It provides lots of useful marketing and educational material specifically for businesses, like a band, to learn how to market themselves on the network. This can be found on the section on business.pinterest.com, and they call it What Works. And it covers four areas.
How to tell your story, how to build a community on Pinterest, how to send traffic to your site, and how to analyze your Pinterest presence. Although it's best to get right into using Pinterest to get a feel of how it works, take a moment to look at this information as soon as you can for some great ideas in getting the most out of the network.
