The power is in the profile. In this video, social media strategist Megan Adams walks through how to create and set up a powerful profile page on Pinterest. Your profile is where people can get to know you and your business, and it's a critical piece in growing your business on Pinterest. Megan shows how to add a username, select an image for your profile picture, and set up all the settings required for a business profile on Pinterest.
- [Instructor] One of the most important ways to successfully market your business on Pinterest is to have a powerful profile page. Your profile page represents your brand and business. It introduces it to new customers, and ensures existing ones recognize and resonate with its look and feel. Let's take a look at the fictional brand, Wisdom Pets, to see how you can setup your own powerful profile page on Pinterest. Once you're logged into Pinterest, select My Profile from the drop-down menu that appears when you click on your brand's logo icon at the right top-hand corner.
Here you can see the main components of a profile. First on the left, you notice the Wisdom Pets label, so this is the name that's going to be easily recognized by my clients and people from the internet. To the right of that is my website URL. Above is the number of followers and people I follow, and then underneath is the description of my business, starting out with its location. So above the boards themselves, you can see that there are three main menu options.
We have Boards, Pins, and Likes. So the Boards menu item shows all the boards that I have created for Wisdom Pets. The Pins option are all the pins that I have either pinned myself, or repinned from my account. Then the third option is Likes. These are all the pins that I have liked as Wisdom Pets. So these are some of the elements of the profile, and let's take a closer look at them.
So in order to create a powerful profile page, you want to make sure that your name is clear, and that it's easily recognized, and that you're not really using any acronyms or long slogans. If you are using an acronym, make sure it's spelled out so it's easily searchable. Next, grab your username, so this is your unique URL that you'll find at the top. This is another way that people can easily find you and it'll boost your SEO. Be sure to have a full and descriptive About Me section. You are limited to 160 characters, but you can be creative.
Make sure you confirm your website. This creates trust and authority, and ensures that you are who you say you are. Make sure that your logo fits the profile picture space. That it's high resolution, easy to see in a small format, and profile images really do look their best at 165 x 165 pixels. Next is create boards that make sense for your brand and fill them with pins. There's nothing worse than having a board with one or two pins in it. Order your boards in a way that make sense for your brand.
Then use the showcase option. So I'm going to show you how you can make these changes in your own profile. So let's head over to the Wisdom Pets business account. So here I am on the profile, and to make these changes, I'm going to head over to Settings in the top right. The first thing that I talked about was the business name, so here I have Wisdom Pets. Underneath I have my logo as my profile picture, and then I have grabbed that username, Wisdom Pets. If you haven't grabbed a username for your business account, I want you to do it now.
So, this is where you're going to choose a username for your account, and it also means that no one else can take it. It makes it really easy for people to search for and find your profile, and it is a permanent URL so you can easily put it on a business card. Next is confirming your website. So a verified website seems to be prioritized in the search results above the rest, so it increases your authority, and eventually helps you rank higher in searches. To verify, you select that, and then you enter this bit of code into your website.
Now I want to go back up and talk about the About You section. So currently you can see that my About Me says Wisdom Pet Medicine blends the best in traditional and alternative veterinary medicine. And then because this is a fictional brand, we do have the disclaimer there. So perhaps I can fill this out a little bit more. I am limited to 160 characters so this is always the challenge. How can I make this more interesting, or more representative of who I am? And I always like to keep in mind that people like to know what they're going to get out of their relationship, so why should they follow me? So this could be something that I change it to.
Follow us for a holistic and loving approach to pet and health care. We share recipes, training tips, and updates on the latest adoptable pets. So, here I'm taking out the name of Wisdom Pets Medicine, because that's taking up valuable space. Wisdom Pets is branded really well already in the profile, so it leaves me an option to create a call to action, follow us for a holistic and loving approach to pet and health care. Then I also share what we share. We'll have recipes, training tips, and updates on the latest adoptable pets, hashtag adoptdontshop.
So I'm also positioning myself in that adopt don't shop niche, hoping that I'm going to target people that are into rescue pets and holistic pet medicine. So here you can see that I'm branding myself a little bit more, that I'm niching, and that I even have a hashtag in the description. The hashtag itself isn't searchable but it is recognizable. Underneath that is the ability to showcase, so this is where I can feature specific boards at the top of my profile.
To set that up I'm going to select Edit, and then I'm going to select the boards that I want to show up. So I want the Meet Our Team, and then I want the Pet Adoption. I'm going to select that. I can select up to five, but I can also select one, two, three, or four. As I go to my profile here I can see that these boards are being featured or showcased, so I think that's a really neat feature that a lot of people miss. So here I am back on the profile. Make sure when you're setting up your business account that it's all filled out. Be sure to use those keywords that pertain to your business and represent your brand.
This is really your opportunity to increase your brand awareness and connect with potential customers. A well filled out and completed profile will help build trust, and increase your search engine optimization along with the use of keywords. So dedicate some time to fill yours out and be sure to get a friend or colleague to give it a one-over and make sure that it's typo-free and really representative of your own brand.
