Join Deke McClelland for an in-depth discussion in this video The return of the Oil Paint filter, part of Photoshop CC 2015 New Features.
- In this version of Photoshop…Adobe has brought back the Oil Paint filter,…which first appeared in Photoshop CS6…and disappeared soon thereafter.…And it's pretty much the same filter it ever was.…The big difference is that it's now…fully built into Photoshop,…as opposed to being loaded as an external plug-in.…And to take advantage of it, you have to have OpenCL,…which stands for Open Computing Language, turned on.…You can go up to the Edit menu,…that's the Photoshop menu on the Mac,…choose Preferences, and then choose Performance.…And after which point,…make sure the Use Graphics Processor box is turned on,…click on Advanced Settings,…and then turn on this check box right there…Use OpenCL.…
If it's already on, great.…Just go ahead and click OK to get out.…If it wasn't on, then you'll need to quit Photoshop…and restart the software.…Now you can apply Oil Paint as an editable smart filter…by first double clicking on the Background item…here inside the Layers panel.…And then I'll go ahead and call this layer…"Model" and click OK.…
