The ground plane and X, Y, and Z axes
In this movie, I'll explain the purpose of the ground plane. And I'll also introduce you to the x, y, and z axis, so you have a sense for what's going on in the world of 3d. Go and switch over to this very basic image of a sphere, casting a couple of shadows, as well as a reflection. And I'll go ahead and click on this 3D layer here inside the layers panel, and then I'll switch to the move tool at the top of the toolbox. And notice that I immediately see this grid below this sphere. And to explain what's going on, I've created this diagram right here in advance, so I'll go ahead and switch over to it. This file contains a bunch of layer comps that will serve as a kind of slide shows. So for starters, this grid right here below this sphere, is the ground plane itself. And the ground plane is like a transparent sheet of paper. So, it's actually a 2d object that's part of any 3d layer. And it resides at the intersection of the red x axis, which represents width, and the blue z axis…
