- In this movie I'll show you the best way to convert…a black-and-white image to a sepia-tone,…whether it's a photograph of a turtle or otherwise,…using a Gradient Map adjustment layer,…and incidentally, this technique works better than…anything you can currently pull off inside Camera Raw.…So the first step is to go up to the Layer menu,…choose New Adjustment Layer,…and then choose Gradient Map,…and that'll allow us to bring up the New Layer dialog box.…I'll go ahead and call this layer "the colors,"…and then I'll click OK.…
And now I'm gonna grab my Properties panel here,…and I'm gonna drag it off to the side…so that I can see the turtle in the background.…Now, what Gradient Map does…is it goes ahead and maps the colors of a gradient…onto the luminance levels inside of an image,…starting with black over here on the left,…and ending with white over here on the right,…which is why so far we haven't made much of a difference.…This is the turtle before we added the layer…and this is the turtle after.…The reason being that we're assigning…
