When to shoot timelapse for cinemagraphs
- I'm a big fan of timelapse photography, and there are many different cameras that can create this type of media. Whether it's your mobile phone, or a full size mirrorless or DSLR, this is increasingly common, and where timelapse really shines is in showing the passage of time. For example, in this case of this architectural shot, this is something that would work well as a background for something more complex, like an ad, or perhaps a banner image on a website. But there's very subtle movement, and what happened here is we condensed about half and hour into 10 seconds. Now you may not have noticed it, but I'll rock through back and forth so you can see the shadows are slowly moving across the architecture. And so this is the sort of thing that makes for a good cinemagraph. Something where there's very subtle motion, and so the movement of shadows is one of those topics that would work quite well.
