Using smart filters
- We've been working with adjustment layers to date, but it is possible to use any filter in Photoshop on a video clip. You just have to do an extra step first, which is convert it to a smart object. This will allow the filters to apply to the entire clip. The only challenge is once you make something a smart object it's very difficult to edit it. You really lose the ability to adjust the handles, change the volume or anything else, so this should be something you do at the very end when you're totally sure everything is right. You may also want to do a save as to capture an earlier version of your sequence. Alright, with that in mind, let me show you how it works. What we're going to do here is come down to our host and I'm just going to select these three clips and from the filter menu I'm going to choose convert for smart filters. And I'll click okay. Now you'll see that they've been nested into one group, and it's fine. Now what we can do is apply a filter. I'll select the track…
