Using blend modes to control color and tonal adjustments
- [Instructor] One of the easiest ways to restrict the way that an adjustment layer blends with the layers below is by using blend modes. Now, typically Photoshop's fill and adjustment layers affect both the colors and the luminosity values in an image. However, there are times when we want to isolate the effect of the adjustment or the filler layer to a single component such as hue, saturation, color, or luminosity. In this first example, it's going to be the most obvious. I want to add a color wash over the photo. If I simply select the gradient fill layer, that will bring up the Gradient Fill dialog and I won't have an option to change the blend mode of the layer until after I create the gradient. So instead, I'm going to hold down the Option key on Mac or the Alt key on Windows, click on the adjustment layer, and then choose gradient. This will enable me to change the Blend Mode…
