Understanding nonsquare pixels
- Before we export the video, I want to take a moment to talk about a specific type of pixel. Some video cameras use pixels that are irregularly shaped. Now this is less and less common these days as most DSLR cameras and cameras that people are going to use to shoot video use traditional square pixels. But you may encounter video formats that use a non-square pixel. Sometimes these are formats like XDCAM or DVCPRO, and these are a lot of the introductory formats that were first used for High Definition. But even in 4k workflows, there are some cameras that use anamorphic pixels. Ones that have an irregular shape. As such, it's important to pay attention when you're working in Photoshop. There is a place to check for non-square pixels. And you should always check the Canvas Size to make sure you know what you're working with. Some video files that you encounter may use non-square pixels. When you open these, Photoshop may flag it as pixel aspect ratio correction. If we look at this…
