Spacing type: Leading, kerning, and tracking

- [Instructor] Here I'm going to talk about the spacing of our type using leading, which is the space between the lines, kerning which is the space between a pair of characters, and tracking which is the space between characters across a range of selected text. On my layers panel I'll make sure I have the appropriate type layer selected and then come to the character panel. First of all, leading, which is this value right here, currently set to auto and that is the default amount of leading. Auto, unless you have changed it, is 120% of your type size. So as your type increases or decreases in size, so too will your leading. You can change the value of auto leading on the paragraph panel by coming to the justification dialog. And in this case I'm going to reduce it to 100%, and we see that those lines now become tighter. We can also specify the leading as an exact number just by typing it in.
