- All right, now we'll see how working with a Smart Object, it leaves for the present, makes the pattern preview command more reliable. And so here we are looking at that group of two vector base shape layers. If I were to go to the View menu, and choose Pattern Preview. I'll get this alert telling me that I'm better off with Smart Objects. I'll click Okay. Everything looks great. That is not accurate, however, as we saw in the previous movie. And so I'll go ahead and press Ctrl Z, or Command Z on the Mac to undo that preview. And then notice that the group is selected here inside the Layers panel. I want to convert it to a Smart Object. My favorite way to work is to switch to the Rectangular Marquee Tool, and then right click anywhere inside that tiny image window and choose Convert to Smart Object.
