- [Instructor] Now by default, when rotating live shapes inside Photoshop you rotate those shapes around their centers. And so notice if I move my cursor slightly beyond this corner handle and drag that I am rotating this star around its center. The same is true if I drag one of these handles while pressing the Alt key. And so notice now I am scaling the shape with respect to its center. I want that shape to remain proportional, and so I'm going to press and hold the Shift key as well. However, you can rotate and scale around a custom reference point, and to make that work you need to change a Preference setting. And so I'll go up to the Edit menu, that's going to be the Photoshop menu on the Mac, then drop down to the Preferences command, which is not nearly so far down the menu on the Mac, and then, on either platform, choose Tools.
