Shooting for a black-and-white HDR
- A popular style of photography is often referred to as HDR, or high dynamic range photos. Now what happens here is you actually push the camera beyond what it can see in a single image. Rather, we shoot a series of images at different exposures. It's important that things like depth of field and focus don't change from shot to shot, but what tends to change is the shutter speed, how long the camera stays open. Essentially what happens is you take shorter or longer photos letting in less or more light, and by capturing this wide range of exposures, Photoshop can merge those together to show you even more detail. We're going to use this for a black and white workflow, and it's one of my favorite techniques. What happens is you can push the camera beyond what it can normally see, and if you're shooting in bright conditions or really midday where there's a wide dynamic range, this is incredibly helpful so you don't lose details.
