- [Instructor] Three of the most commonly used filters…in Photoshop are the unsharp masks, smart sharpen…and high pass filters.…They're all used to prepare images for output.…Let's take a look at these filters…to see when and why we'd want to use one over another.…First of all, I want to view my image at 100%…so I can see what I'm doing.…I'll use command+1 in order to zoom in.…Then I'll change the background into a smart object…by right-clicking and choosing convert to smart object.…I'm going to need two additional copies…so I'll use the keyboard shortcut command+j…in order to duplicate the layer…and then I'll do it again, command+j,…so that I have two copies.…
I'll hide the top two copies by turning off the visibility…and make sure that I have layer one selected.…This is going to be my unsharp mask,…so I'll double-click on it.…And then type in USM for unsharp mask.…Under the filter menu, I'll choose sharpen…and then unsharp mask.…When we sharpen our images,…we're really fooling our eye into thinking…that the image is sharper by adding an edge contrast.…
