- [Instructor] All right, now we'll take a look at the TIFF format. TIFF stands for tag image file format because it relies on data units called tags. Now you don't really need to know that, but there is some history that you might find helpful. TIFF was first developed by Aldus, the group that created PageMaker, back in 1986. So four years before the Macintosh-only version of Photoshop even hit the market. But then, later on down the line, Adobe bought Aldus and they pretty much turned PageMaker into InDesign, which is why the TIFF format is so beloved by print professionals. So if you're planning on commercially reproducing a document, the TIFF format is the way to go. Now along with buying Aldus, Adobe bought the TIFF format and they've since retooled it to support layers. However, there's a couple of reasons not to support layers with a TIFF file.
