Removing small distractions

All right, here I'm going to show you some tools and techniques that you can use in order to remove distracting elements in your photographs. We're going to start off with something that is simple and then we're going to quickly move to working with an area which will be a little bit more complicated. It will require that we make a selection; then that we inverse this selection and then retouch into this selected area. When I captured this portrait last week, I was really focused in on the subject. I didn't notice these small little distracting elements over here on the left side of the frame. So I want to fix these or remove these after the fact. The first thing that we're going to do in order to do this is we're going to create a new layer and let's create a new layer by way of a shortcut. The shortcut is Shift+Command+N on a Mac or Shift+Ctrl+N on Windows. You want to write that one down, because we'll be using it a lot in this course.
