- [Instructor] One of the filters that can save…us a lot of time when we're scanning objects or…photographs is the dust and scratches filter.…Now before I apply the filter, I'll use the…Filter menu to Convert for Smart Filters,…which will convert my background into a smart object.…Before I apply dust and scratches, I can see…there's a green halo around a lot of these…seed pods where the background just isn't dark enough.…So I'm going to choose the Image menu and then…select Adjustments, and then Levels.…
Now in a previous video I said we should stay…away from the Image Adjustments menu,…however if I've converted my background or…any layer to a smart object, and I add an…adjustment using the Image Adjustments menu,…Photoshop adds that not as an adjustment layer,…but as a filter.…So I'm going to move the black point slider…over to the right and I'm basically clipping everything…to the left of the slider to pure black.…
I'll click OK, and we can see in the layers…panel that the levels adjustment has been…added as a filter.…
